Edinburgh Guitar Night - Simon Thacker & Karmana

The Edinburgh Guitar Night is a series of concerts in Edinburgh, based on the idea of celebrating the instrument of the guitar, and the musicians that play it. Created by Edinburgh-based guitarist Ali Tod, the Edinburgh Guitar Night is designed to give guitarists a platform to perform and showcase their instrument in an intimate setting. Edinburgh Guitar Night is a recurring event with international and local guitarists of a variety of genres, from acoustic, classical and flamenco, to electric rock, jazz and funk, and is the premier event for showcasing guitar talent in the city.

After many years of playing together John Williams and John Etheridge are joined by classical guitarist and composer Gary Ryan in a colourful and varied programme of solos, duos and trios. Williams and Etheridge will play some of their most popular pieces together and own compositions and Gary Ryan will play his own “Benga Beat”. The programme will also feature duos played by Ryan and Williams, by Ryan and Etheridge and trio pieces “Malinke Guitars” and “Triangular Situations”. All pieces will be introduced by the players.

Marcin Dylla was born in Chorzow in 1976 and received his first guitar lessons at the Ruda Slaska Music Conservatory in his native Poland. From 1995 to 2000 he studied at the Music Academy of Katowice with Adi Wanda Palacz and later completed his studies with Oscar Ghiglia, Sonja Prunnbauer and Carlo Marchione at the Music Academies of Basel (Switzerland), Freiburg (Germany) and Maastricht (The Netherlands), respectively. He is currently a Professor at the Music Academy in Kraków and Katowice.

Ali Arango in concert

Alí Arango has played extensively, he has toured in Catalonia and at 19 years old toured throughout Cuba with the National Symphony Orchestra invited by Leo Brouwer, interpreting the Concierto de Aranjuez. He has also played in Italy, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Algeria, Germany, Mexico and USA. He have made the world premiere performance of three of Brouwer’s works: "Paisaje Cubano con Tristeza" (for guitar); "Gismontiana" (for four guitars and a string orchestra) and Nr. 1 Series of "Danzas Rituales y Festivas" (for guitar).
